Roll magnetic separators of SMVI-1 and SMVI-2 series

High-gradient roll separators are applied for dry magnetic separation of non-metallic materials and feebly magnetic ores.

Research and Production Company “ERGA” produces SMVI-1 and SMVI-2 series roll-type magnetic separators for one- and two-stage separation and equipped with one or two magnetic rolls accordingly. The most commonly used technology is dry magnetic separation with preliminary removal of strongly magnetic component via drum (SMBM series) or rod magnetic separators (ASMK series) with subsequent release of a feebly magnetic component on SMVI-2 roll separators.


  • Magnetic induction on the surface of magnetic rolls of SMVI-1, -2, -3 series reaches 1.7 T (17 000 Gs), that corresponds to the field density of 1 350 kA/m (17 000 Oe). The design of magnetic rolls is patented.
  • The material supply system using a vibration feeder ensures the uniform material distribution at the whole width of the operating area.
  • SMVI-1, -2, -3 control systems are optimized for easy setting of operation modes.
  • SMVI-1, -2, -3 series can be connected to the aspiration systems.
  • Roll separators have a lot of advantages over electromagnetic equivalents – no power consumptions for the generation of a magnetic field, higher operation reliability, smaller dimensions and lighter weight.


Magnetic separators of SMVI series are designed for dry magnetic separation or removal of feebly ore and non-metallic materials.

Operation principle

From the separator’s infeed hopper the material is transported to the vibrating feeder, then it is uniformly fed to a belt conveyor with a magnetic drive shaft. Magnetic field created by the shaft attracts magneto-susceptible contaminants and holds them on the surface Kevlar belt, which conveys them into the discharge area. The splitter under the magnetic shaft is used for separating non-magnetic and weakly magnetic components.

SMVI high-induction roll systems are usually used when there is a possibility of installing new equipment in an existing process line with structural modifications of the product transportation scheme.


Low power consumption with high quality of separation, compact dimensions and mass in comparison with electromagnetic separators determine the choice in favor of SMVI magnetic separators. A wide range of magnetic properties of separated material causes a diverse and most effective application of high-induction magnetic separation systems in many industries.
